Track and Field Heads to Mason-Dixon Championship This Weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University track and field team heads to Gwynedd-Mercy College this weekend for the Mason-Dixon Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Captains are seeded first in nine of the events.
Events get kicked off at 5:00pm on Saturday evening and continue through Sunday afternoon. Field events on Saturday are the men's and women's high jump, long jump and hammer. Track events start with preliminary rounds of the women's 110m hurdles and men's 110m hurdles followed by the men's and women's 100m.
The men's and women's 10,000m will cap off the events on Saturday. The competition opens on Sunday with the women's triple jump at 10:30am. The final events of the day are the women's and men's 4x400m relays with the awards ceremony set to start at 3:45pm.
The men hauled in the championship last year earning 205 points with the runner-up, Penn State Behrand, totaling 133. The women's team finished second behind Methodist University. Richard Roethel was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet and head coach Tyler Wingard was named Men's Coach of theYear.
The Captains have earned the top seed in nine of the events this weekend.
