Captains Sweep USA South President's Cups For Sixth Straight Year
CNU wins trophy for conference supremacy

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For the sixth straight year, the Christopher Newport University Athletic Department swept the USA South Athletic Conference President's Cup Awards. CNU posted the highest point total in the Overall standings for the 15th straight year, while picking up the seventh straight Women's and sixth straight Men's Cups. The announcement was made Monday afternoon by the USA South Athletic Conference.

This past season, the Captains captured at least a share of 11 conference regular season championships, six on the women's side and five on the men's side. CNU also finished as the runner-up in one sport. These President's Cups are the 31st, 32nd and 33rd that Christopher Newport has won since the award's inception during the 1978-79 academic year.

The USA South Athletic Conference President's Cup symbolizes the league's top men's and women's athletic program each year. The President's Cup is awarded by a points system where the first place team in each sport will be awarded the number of points that corresponds to the number of schools that sponsor teams in that sport. The second place team receives one point less than the first place team and so on, down to one point for the last place team that competes.

CNU piled up 103 total points, 32 more than the second place school in the Overall Cup standings. On the women's side, CNU beat out Methodist for the Cup (60-43) and the Captains' men's squads also finished ahead of Methodist (43-28).

Led by a National Runner-Up finish by the 2011 Volleyball Team, the Captains success has yet again raised the bar for overall excellence. CNU teams have won 87.2% of conference games, going 105-15-1 against the league. Overall, CNU has won over 77% of their contests, with 238 total victories and counting.
