WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Christopher Newport University cross country teams competed in the William and Mary Invitational this morning with the men's 8k kicking off at 9:45am and the women's 6k starting at 10:15am.
Raymond Gamache led the Captains finishing 11th overall with a time of 26:05. Up next for the Captains was Williams Kirk who finished in 20th coming in at 27:01. Patrick Cunningham came in 23rd at 27:16.

"Ray led the men again today and had a very strong race," said head coach Matthew Barreau. "We held him back for nearly two miles today and he just dominated the rest of the race on his way to 11th. He's been able to show an aptitude for running successfully off getting out hard in races, and off holding back then moving through a field. That will serve him well as we get to the Regional Meet and there will need to be a bit of both strategies involved."

Winning the men's race was unattached runner Everett Hacket who came in with a time of 24:56. He was followed by William & Mary's Zach Tennant at 25:16.
Jade Zaharoff led the women's team with a 15th place finish and a time of 23:49.

"Jade continues to run solid up front, but even she has more in her than she showed today. A little more trust in herself and there is a big jump waiting to happen. It was good to have Erin Rolaf back racing for us, and she did well moving through the field," said Barreau of the women's race.

Finishing second for the Captains was Erin Rolaf who came in at 24:30 for a 25th place finish overall. She was followed just seven seconds later by Jessica McClelland at 24:37.

Barreau noted, "Jess McClelland had one of the best performances of the day as she continues smashing her personal bests from last year. She ran 1:45 faster than she did last year on this course, and has established herself as one of our top girls and consistent performers."

An unattached runner, Deanna Foshee, also took the women's race with a time of 22:41. She was followed by three N.C. State runners at 22:42, 22:43 and 22:52.

Up next for the Captains is the USA South Conference Championship on October 29 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
