Jenna Elliott Earns All-America Honors in the High Jump
Captains sophomore finished sixth in the event

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Christopher Newport University sophomore Jenna Elliott  secured her first career All-American honor today, finishing sixth in the Women's High Jump at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Elliott cleared 1.67m in two jumps, as one of just ten women to make that height.

Elliott was competing in her first NCAA National Championship event for the Captains and cleared her first three jumps at 1.55m, 1.59m and 1.63m.

Then, she reached the 1.67 meter bar and missed on her first attempt. With her second jump, she cleared the height that eliminated four of the remaining 14 athletes. Of the ten jumpers left, only five leapt over the 1.70m bar, meaning the All-American honors and top placing would come down to number of jumps. Elliott and Kinsey Bak (Simpson) were the only ones to make the jump in two attempts.

Elliott earns the Captains 482nd All-American honor in the combined men's and women's track and field history. CNU boasts 65 national champions and 12 team titles.
