CNU XC - Men 6th, Women 9th at Dickinson Invitational

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Christopher Newport University cross country teams competed in the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational and the men finished 6th overall while the women finished 9th. The men competed in a 4000 meter and 8000 meter race. The women ran a 4000 meter and 6000 meter race.

The men finished tenth in the men's short race with 95 points, just ahead of Shenandoah who totaled 98. Senior Corey Lofton led the way for the Captains finishing 13th with a time of 12:56. Also earning points for the Captains was freshman Samuel Martin who posted a time of 13:41 followed one second later by junior Chris Lyford.

The men also scored 95 in the long race for a seventh place finish. Senior Josh Bowling finished at 28:09 to lead the Captains and was followed by senior Will Kirk at 28:18. Also scoring for the Captains was freshman Van Lewin who finished in 28:40.

The short and long race scores combined for 190 total points and a sixth place overall finish. Winning with 36 points was Dickinson followed by Carnegie Mellon with 82.

The women placed 10th in the short race with sophomore Erin Rolaf, sophomore Julie Machamer and freshman Sarah Russell scoring for the Captains who finished with 92 points. Rolaf finished 18th overall with a time of 16:20. Machamer finished at 16:56 with Sarah Russell coming in at 17:07.

The women totaled 153 points in the long course finishing fifteenth. Senior Jade Zaharoff led the way for the Captains finishing in 25:29. Also earning points for the Captains were sophomore Jessica McClellan posting a 26:19 and junior Karen Bumiller who ran a 27:05.

The women's two races combined for 245 points for the Captains earning them ninth overall. Dickinson won, edging Johns Hopkins by four points, with 62 points from both courses.

The Captains compete again next weekend as they travel to Salisbury, Md. for the Don Cathcart Invitational.
